Super rare version of what is already a great collectors item.
This authentic "Second State Butcher Cover" somehow ended up having a STEREO Trunk Cover slick being pasted onto a MONO Butcher Cover. This occurred after it was sent back to the pressing plant to have the Trunk slick pasted over the Butcher Cover. I'm not sure how this mismatched combination of an original Mono sleeve and a Stereo Trunk Cover Slick occurred, but however this happened, it did not happen often. I cannot find any reference to another example of this combination anywhere.
The original Butcher Cover is a Los Angeles pressing ( see #6 next to the RIAA crest in photos). The record is a Stereo pressing and it comes with the original orange "Capitol '66" inner sleeve.
The Butcher Cover is most visible along the lower part of the spine-side edge where the slick was not adjusted correctly. Less prominent, but still visible is the black triangle of Ringo's turtle neck, a few inches down from the word "Today" on the front. Please see photos for details.
I have also included a couple of photos taken using a mirror in an effort to show the mismatch of the Stereo and Mono combination in one shot, and have included a video that shows me turning it a couple of times to show the different sides of the cover.
I am a long-time record dealer and picked this record up for my personal collection, many, many years ago.
This record has been well looked after and never subjected to much handling or play. The sleeve has a bit of light shelf wear, some age related discoloration and a couple of small wrinkles. The worst damage is a very small blemish on Ringo's nose. The sleeve has never been exposed to an attempted peel and as a result, the Trunk Slick remains complete with no damage to edges or corners. The stereo LP is in strong VG+ condition, retaining original luster and showing only a few light scuffs and a few minor nicks here and there, Original inner sleeve has a 4" tear on the Capitol '66 side that reaches from the opening down into the image of the Nancy Wilson record, second from left. The inner sleeve also has some minor creasing. Labels are shiny and undamaged.
Because this is such a rare and expensive item, I am not offering international sales at this time. I would also prefer an in-person transaction, and along with offering pick-up, I am willing to travel, under the right circumstances to help make this happen. Having said that ,I might also be able to arrange for secure courier delivery.
